What customers say

"BEST MECHANIC IN HORNSBY! When my 6 year old Mazda's aircon died last week I asked Phil to take a look at re-gassing it for me. True to form, Phil did what he does best & completely investigated and diagnosed the issue, and found that it was the compressor… took the time to find me a genuine MAZDA replacement part for HALF the price the Mazda dealerships were going to charge for it. THANK YOU Phil - you saved me thousands of $$ and the car is running like when I originally bought it 6 years ago."

Ben Dulhunty

Air conditioning

"Phil is an excellent mechanic who genuinely cares about his work and about your car. He always takes the time to explain what's going on and why… He also gives honest advice and always checks with me before doing anything that will cost extra, which I really appreciate."

Sanskar D. Verma

Diagnostics & repair

"We had been struggling with a tricky issue on our car that several other mechanics couldn't quite get to the bottom of. Thankfully, we found Phil from Precision Mechanic's… he took the time to thoroughly inspect the car, kept us updated throughout the process, and explained everything clearly."

Verity West

Complex diagnostics

"We have been using Phil for regular 6-monthly services on our two cars (a total of four services per year) and wouldn't go anywhere else. He is the most honest and reliable mechanic we've ever encountered. Phil always provides clear advice, letting us know how long we can wait before addressing an issue or replacing parts."

Hayley Stephenson

Regular servicing

"Best mechanic in all of Sydney. I went to Phil down at Precision mechanics because I saw the amazing reviews and needed a mechanic same day… not only did Phil make sure my car was perfect for the drive. But he made my car feel brand new again."

James Papasotiriou

"I had such a positive experience with Phil. I came in without an appointment because I urgently needed my car wipers replaced, and he was incredibly kind and accommodating. He helped me straight away and did a fantastic job."

The Hunter Lane workshop where nothing gets fixed without you understanding it first

I'm Phil. I run Precision Mechanics on Hunter Lane in Hornsby — the workshop you might know from its Hunter Lane Automotive days. I took it over because I wanted to run a workshop the way I think one should run: you bring me the car, I find the actual problem, I explain it so it makes sense, and nothing gets spent without you approving it first.

  • Find the real fault first

Codes, tests and inspection before a single part is replaced. Guessing is what makes repairs expensive.

  • Your approval before your money

Every extra is explained and approved first. No growing invoices.

  • Genuine parts, honest prices

Genuine where it matters, sourced at the best price I can find — dealers aren't the only option.

Common questions

Do I need an appointment?

No — walk-ins are welcome when the schedule allows, and reviewers mention being helped straight away without a booking. For the best chance of a same-day slot, call (02) 9477 5747 early in the day. The workshop at 69 Hunter Lane, Hornsby is open Monday to Friday, 8 am–5:30 pm, and there's on-site parking at the door.

Will I approve the price before work starts?

Always. You'll get a clear quote before anything begins, and if the job uncovers something unexpected, Phil calls to explain and re-quote before going further. “He always checks with me before doing anything that will cost extra” is a direct quote from a customer review — it's how the workshop runs.

My car's been to another mechanic and it's still not right — can you help?

That's a specialty. Multiple reviews describe exactly this: a botched alternator replacement diagnosed and fixed properly, and a tricky issue several mechanics couldn't solve, found and resolved with updates throughout. Diagnosis starts with the fault codes and proper testing — not parts-swapping. Call (02) 9477 5747 and describe the history.

Do you do pink slips / rego checks?

Yes — Precision Mechanics is an NSW Authorised Safety Check station, so eSafety Checks (pink slips) happen on-site at 69 Hunter Lane. If the car passes, the result is lodged electronically with Service NSW straight away and you can renew immediately. If something needs attention, you'll get a straight explanation and a price before any work begins.

Is my new-car warranty safe if you service it?

Yes. Log book servicing follows the manufacturer's schedule exactly, which keeps your statutory warranty intact under Australian Consumer Law — you don't need the dealership for scheduled servicing. Your log book is stamped every visit, and you approve the price before work starts.

Do you work on European cars?

Yes. Lexus, Mazda and Volvo are all named in recent reviews, and European makes are handled alongside Japanese, Korean and Australian vehicles — including the diagnostics European electronics demand. Genuine parts are sourced where they matter, often well below dealership prices.

What are your hours?

Monday to Friday, 8 am–5:30 pm. Closed weekends. If you've got an urgent fault, call (02) 9477 5747 as early as you can — same-day help at short notice is something reviewers regularly mention.
